Traumatic events like vehicle accidents often result in serious injuries to the extremities (arms and legs). First responders rely on proven but antiquated techniques to treat these injuries, but they could save more lives if they had a better way to quickly and easily stop bleeding in a variety of body types.
Requirements
The submission must meet the following criteria to be graded:
1) Completely stops arterial bleeding from the injured extremity
2) Stops arterial bleeding in 45 seconds or less
3) Weighs 10 pounds or less
4) Occupies a space of 144 cubic inches or less
5) Treats a variety of different limb sizes
Grading Criteria
All submissions that meet the requirements will be graded using the following metrics:
1) How long the treatment controls arterial bleeding of the extremity
2) How quickly it stops hemorrhaging
3) How light it is
4) How little space it occupies
5) Range of limb sizes able to be treated
Extra Judge Considerations
The judge will also consider how easily the treatment is applied when grading the submissions.
